The arena is anchored on the east bank of the Arctic Island. The arena bears the above name of what is now Hawke Bay, a ample semi-circular bay which extends for 100 kilometres from northeast to southwest from Mahia Peninsula to Cape Kidnappers.

The Hawke's Bay arena includes the arresting littoral acreage about the arctic and axial bay, the floodplains of the Wairoa River in the north, the advanced abundant Heretaunga Plains about Hastings in the south, and a arresting autogenous addition up into the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges.
